– James 5:13-18…
Three questions that stress the need for Disciples to pray.
1. James 5:13a Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray.
How should a Disciple respond to suffering, any trouble or persecution? “He must pray”. and“keep on praying.” Prayer should be the Disciple’s consistent, continual attitude. Through prayer, we acknowledge God’s tremendous power to address any situation. An intimate relationship with Jesus provides the basis for endurance during suffering and trouble. 2. James 5:13b Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.
This cheerfulness is deeper than temporary happiness resulting from good news. Instead, it comes from an intimate relationship with Jesus that brings inner peace despite the external situation. A Disciple can be cheerful even in pain. A cheerful believer sings praises to Jesus who gives us joy. We can praise Jesus today through scripture, song, prayer, and worship.
It is good and obedient to pray and praise God in bad and good times.
