I desire nothing on earth but God.

Psalm 73:23-25..23 Yet I am always with You; You hold my right hand. 24 You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me up in glory. 25 Who do I have in heaven but You? And I desire nothing on earth but You.

You and Your is God and together appear 7 times in this scripture. This scripture has captured my mediation time since it was my memory verse for the week of 11/20-26/2017. Let’s look at each phrase.

23 “Yet I am always with You;” God is Omnipresent or everywhere at the same time all the time. In addition since Pentecost A every believer in Jesus’ body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. B  Jesus and the glory of God is with me.C So every where I am the Triune God is with me always.

“You hold my right hand.” Dr. Phillips said “The psalmist sees a future in which he holds hands with God. He will never be trapped by a greedy grasping after God’s wealth.” This is in contrast to the arrogant and ungodly in vv.1-12.

24 “You guide me with Your counsel,”  The Omnisapient-all wise and Omnipotent-all powerful God guides me with His counsel when I will let Him. O God may I continually seek your guidance in my daily life?

“and afterward You will take me up in glory.” When the days of my life on earth end God will take me up to heaven and I will meet Jesus face to face. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.” D

25 “Who do I have in heaven but You?”As disciples Jesus gave us the glory of God immediately at salvation for a purpose; I have given them the glory you have given me, that the world may know You have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved Me.” C

“And I desire nothing on earth but You.” When we look on the glory of God daily, a disciple’s desire on earth turns from desiring things of this world to desiring God. His divine power gives us the ability to live holy lives E and be His ambassador on earth every day F.

O God help me to desire nothing on earth but You every day I have remaining on this earth.
