What the Bible says about careless words with the power to discourage. Examination-Wednesday

Mathew 12:36 But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.

12:18 There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

13:3 The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

15:1 A gentle response diverts anger, but a harsh statement incites fury.

15:4  A gentle statement is a tree of life, but perverted speech shatters the spirit.

15:28 The mind of the righteous thinks before speaking, but the wicked person spews out evil.

James 3:6-10,17-18.. And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell. For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.

But His Word gives us faith and wisdom: 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. 18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

1 Peter 3:10  The one who desires life, to love and see good daysMust keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit Ephesians 4:29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

O God I pray for the power, strength and wisdom to avoid the use of “careless” words that discourage others. Instead let my words encourage others. Notes: A- 1 Corinthians 3:11-15, 2 Corinthians 5:1,10
