What does it mean to “seek the face of the Lord”?

The phrase “seek My face” means to seek to be in the presence of God. “Seek My face” appears most often in the Old Testament because God was not always present in the lives of people of faith in the Old Testament times. Here are 5 of many relevant verses from the Old Testament: [NASB version unless noted.]

“But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” A

But I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they will do, for they will turn to other gods.” B

My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” C

“The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead.D NLT

“In an outburst of anger I hid My face from you for a moment, But with everlasting lovingkindness I will have compassion on you,” Says the LORD your Redeemer.” E

.Jesus said: F and “He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”  G  One of the reasons Jesus came to earth as a man was to demonstrate the character and attributes of God. The disciples saw Jesus and inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote the new Testament. As a result we see Jesus through their eyes and someday we will have a resurrected body like His. H

Today as a result the indwelling of the Holy Spirit the Disciple is always in the presence of God. He also knows every thought and action the Disciple takes and every where we go. The question is does the Disciple always acknowledge His presence. I

Sin separates us from the fellowship and the presence of Jesus. We must keep short accounts with God by continually recognizing, confessing, repenting and seeking forgiveness of sin. J  Practice spiritual breathing often during the day–click here.

My worship goal is to try to move a little closer to the image of Jesus each day. There will be a cumulative effect as the days, weeks, months, and years go by and the joy of the presence of Jesus will be evident to me and those around me.
