The epistle of 1 Peter was written from Rome probably just before Nero burned Rome. Nero then turned to a fiery persecution of Christians as he attempted to deflect blame from himself for the fire. The themes in the book are to encourage and stimulate believers then and today. They include:
Hope— confidence in God for an abundant life on earth and an eternal future in heaven with Jesus,
Suffering— a privilege, a part of God’s plan and reason for rejoicing,
Holiness— growth in Christ like character that results in an increase in likeness to the image of Jesus¸
Humility— putting others first, looking out for the interest of others, opposite of pride, following Jesus’ example, etc.
Grace-– Grace is God’s generous and totally unmerited favor to undeserving lost sinners and needy saints. By God’s grace we are saved and not by any works on our part and also the believer grows in holiness toward the image of Jesus Christ through grace;
Glory–The glory of God means the sum total of all that God does and is. “Glory” is not a separate attribute or characteristic of God, such as His holiness, wisdom, or mercy. Everything that God is and does is characterized by glory. He is glorious in wisdom and power, so that everything He thinks and does is marked by glory. He reveals His glory in creation (Psalm 19) and in His plan of salvation for lost sinners.
The believer is looking forward to “eternal glory” 1 Peter 5:10c:
[a] now Romans 8:30c these whom He justified, He also glorified.; 1 Peter 4:14b you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.; John 17:22 The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one.
The believer receives glory at the great exchange at salvation 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.;
Moses spent 40 days with God and His glory was revealed in the face of Moses:
Exodus 34: 27 Then the Lord said to Moses,.. 28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights;..29 It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai, that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him… 33 When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
His glory is revealed in the believer when time is spent with Him in the Bible and prayer and obedience to the Great Commandment and Great Commission;
[b] ultimately in heaven with our resurrected bodies: 1 Peter 1:7 praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.; 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, We know that when He appears, we will be like Him,.
