Where is the glory of God now?

John 17: 22a “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them”

In the Old Testament when Moses completed the tabernacle “the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.” Exodus 40:34b When Solomon completed the Temple “for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.” 1 Kings 8:11b After many years of rebellion and sin by Israel, Ezekiel in Babylon saw a vision of the glory of God departing the temple before the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. “Then the glory of the LORD departed from the threshold of the temple” Ezekiel 10:18a

When a person is saved by faith through grace (Ephesians 2:8-9) the great exchange takes place “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 By His grace every disciple’s sin is exchanged for His righteousness when they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior (Romans 10:9 & 13). Also the disciple’s body becomes a temple, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God,…” 1 Corinthians 6:19

In the church age as a temple of God, the new disciple immediately receives the glory of God as promised in John 17:22. We receive His glory for three purposes described in John 17:23: 1) that Jesus would be in His disciples “I in them…”; 2) that disciples live in unity “that they may be perfected in unity”; and 3) “so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me”.  Romans 8:30c these whom He justified, He also glorified. 1 Peter 4:14b you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.;

When Moses returned from the mountain where he received the ten commandments “the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.” Exodus 34:29. Disciples, as a temple of God possess the Holy Spirit, the glory of God and Jesus in us. Like the people seeing Moses, the people of the world today should see something different about His disciples as they live in perfect unity and loving God and neighbor. All disciples are commanded to go making disciples in the power and authority of Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18-20

A disciple of Jesus Christ is holy and wherever he or she goes God is there; “16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
